Phase 3 introduces several other tasks which should be integrated into your ongoing ever-growing set of weekly Internet marketing tasks.

An essential part of phase 3 is relevant link building – getting lots of other websites to link to you. This has three main benefits:

1) Increasing social proof – that is, the amount of other websites talking about you and linking to you, meaning that your visitors are more likely to trust you as an authority in your field.

2) Improving your search engine optimization – a link from another website to you is like a vote for your website in the eyes of search engines.

3) Increasing the amount of traffic to your website. There is an added benefit to driving more visitors to your website from links – it reduces your reliance on traffic from search engines.

Many businesses make the mistake of thinking that they’ve made it if they hit the top of Google for a popular, relevant keyword phrase.
That is extremely dangerous.

If the majority of your website visitors came from just the one source, and you just rested on your laurels, happy with the volume of people visiting your website, what would happen if you suddenly lost your ranking for your main keyword phrase?

Phase 3 helps you recognize that no form of Internet marketing is entirely reliable, and that it’s an extremely sensible long-term business approach to ‘broaden your base’ by aiming to build multiple sources of regular website visitors.
